It is important to know that Culturally the conversations are around who you know in the Deaf Community and you and your communication partner’s connection with the Deaf Community.

When a hearing person is meeting a Deaf person for the first time, they must
provide this information and answer the following question:

1. First and last name
2. Identify themselves as hearing or deaf
3. Provide where they learned sign language
4. Who was the person/teacher that taught them sign language

Questions asked in ASL:

Judy Moulton has been a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Sign Language Instructor in Rochester, New York for more than 17 years. She has worked with all age groups from pre-school to adults. She has taught sign language at Monroe Community College, Community Education classes, and recently taught ASL for “foreign language” credit in the Greece School District. Toni Lynn Van Bramer earned a BS Degree in Speech Language Pathology and a MS Degree in Deaf Education in the Rochester, NY area. She currently teaches ASL level 1 and 2 to hearing students who are completing their second language requirement for their high school diploma.
