Mount Vesuvius in Italy erupted in 79 A.D. burying the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Upon their discoveries in the 18th century, these unearthed preserved cities and gave the field of archaeology much attention and inspired art of the time period. This activity will allow students to re-enact the disaster and explain the importance of the discovery of the cities.
